This mechanism refers to a class of cell-based cancer therapies built from natural killer (NK) cells, an arm of the innate immune system capable of killing abnormal cells without prior antigen exposure. The cells themselves are allogeneic, meaning sourced from a healthy donor rather than the patient, which allows manufacturing in advance rather than custom production for each person. The overall rationale is to concentrate cytotoxic activity precisely on tumor cells bearing the chosen marker while minimizing damage to healthy tissue, and to address the reality that different tumors, even within the same cancer type, express different surface antigens.
