Budesonide / formoterol fumarate (SYMBICORT) vs mometasone furoate/formoterol fumarate
Same mechanism, same race: design-graded trial evidence for both assets, with the grading rationale shown. Grades describe the quality of the evidence, never the merits of either security.

Budesonide / formoterol fumarate (SYMBICORT)
Marketed by AstraZeneca
NCT00646321 · Phase 3 · completed
The study was randomized and double-blind, used budesonide as an active comparator, and planned to enroll 540 participants. Its primary endpoint was change in evening peak expiratory flow, a lung-function surrogate rather than a hard clinical or endoscopic outcome, and no primary endpoint results are posted.

NCT00746330 · Phase 2 · completed
The study randomized and quadruple-blinded 32 children to receive the combination, active comparators, and placebo in a crossover design. Its primary endpoint was the surrogate measure of 12-hour FEV1 AUC; although the reported means favored the combination over placebo, statistical significance was not stated, so the result is unclear.
