Aripiprazole lauroxil (Aristada)
Marketed by Alkermes plc
NCT01469039 · Phase 3 · completed
The trial was randomized, quadruple-blinded, and placebo-controlled, with 623 participants assigned to aripiprazole lauroxil 441 mg, 882 mg, or placebo. Its primary clinical symptom endpoint, change in PANSS total score at day 85, was significantly better with both active doses than with placebo (p<0.001 for each comparison).
Brexpiprazole (Rexulti)
Marketed by Otsuka Holdings and partners
NCT01393613 · Phase 3 · completed
This was a randomized, quadruple-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 674 patients with acute schizophrenia, using a validated symptom-severity scale (PANSS) as the primary measure. The pooled comparison of the two higher doses against placebo reached statistical significance (p=0.0093), and the 4 mg dose was significant on its own, but the 1 mg and 2 mg doses individually did not separate from placebo, so the result was only partially met.
