Head-to-head evidence
albuterol / budesonide vs Ventolin
Same mechanism, same race: design-graded trial evidence for both assets, with the grading rationale shown. Grades describe the quality of the evidence, never the merits of either security.

NCT03769090 · Phase 3 · completed
Participants were randomized and quadruple-blinded across two budesonide/albuterol groups and an active albuterol comparator, with 3,132 randomized participants. The primary clinical endpoint was met for both doses: severe exacerbations occurred in 207/1,013 versus 266/1,014 participants for high-dose treatment (hazard ratio 0.733, p<0.001) and 241/1,054 versus 276/1,056 for low-dose treatment (hazard ratio 0.835, p=0.041).

Ventolin
Developed by GlaxoSmithKline
NCT01076322 · Phase 3 · completed
The study randomized participants to treatment sequences and included Ventolin as the active comparator, but it was open-label and small, with an estimated 17 participants. Its primary endpoint, change in FEV1, is a clinical lung-function measure, but no results are posted to show whether the comparison was favorable for Ventolin or met its prespecified objective.
