INN (international nonproprietary name)

A drug's global generic name, assigned by the WHO; the same molecule keeps one INN across every brand and market.

An INN like adalimumab or semaglutide names the active substance itself. Brands vary by company, market and indication; the INN does not, and its stem often encodes the drug class: -mab for monoclonal antibodies, -tinib for kinase inhibitors, -tide for peptides.

This site keys its drug pages by INN, with brands shown alongside. Pipeline assets that have no INN yet appear under their development code, the sponsor's internal identifier, until one is assigned.
