Head-to-head evidence

Resmetirom vs VK2809

Same mechanism, same race: design-graded trial evidence for both assets, with the grading rationale shown. Grades describe the quality of the evidence, never the merits of either security.

VK2809

Developed by Viking Therapeutics

Phase 2 in MASH / NASHsmall molecule
Partial signal

NCT04173065 · Phase 2 · completed

This randomized, quadruple-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2b trial (n=248) in biopsy-confirmed NASH measured its primary result using an imaging-based marker of liver fat (MRI-PDFF) rather than the liver biopsy assessment typically used to support NASH drug approvals. VK2809 produced a significant, dose-dependent reduction in liver fat versus placebo at 12 weeks, up to 51.7% (p<0.0001), a promising early signal that still needs confirmation on the histological outcome collected later in the study.

Caveat: this result is taken from a company announcement or a news report of one, not from the trial registry or a peer-reviewed publication. Treat the figures as the sponsor's own statement, not as independently verified evidence.
