Chiglitazar vs Lanifibranor

Same mechanism, same race: design-graded trial evidence for both assets, with the grading rationale shown. Grades describe the quality of the evidence, never the merits of either security.

Phase 3 in Type 2 Diabetessmall molecule
Reliable signal

NCT02173457 · Phase 3 · completed

In this randomized, double-blind, active-controlled Phase 3 trial, 740 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomized to chiglitazar (32mg or 48mg) or sitagliptin. At 24 weeks, chiglitazar met its non-inferiority margin against sitagliptin on HbA1c reduction, with very small treatment differences of -0.04 and -0.08 percentage points.

Lanifibranor

Developed by Inventiva

Phase 2 in Type 2 Diabetessmall molecule
Partial signal

NCT05232071 · Phase 2 · completed

This trial was randomized, blinded, and placebo-controlled, and its posted results showed lanifibranor and lanifibranor-plus-empagliflozin both significantly lowered HbA1c versus placebo at 24 weeks. However, the trial enrolled only 39 patients across three arms, explicitly designed as an early proof-of-concept study, which is too small to serve as strong, confirmatory evidence on its own.

Caveat: this result is taken from a company announcement or a news report of one, not from the trial registry or a peer-reviewed publication. Treat the figures as the sponsor's own statement, not as independently verified evidence.
